The group is run by a playleader and a group of volunteers. Each child has his/her own helper who will try to attend each week so the child gets to know them. The helpers all have an interest in young children and many are qualified teachers, nurses or nursery nurses. The children are encouraged to play freely with assistance from their helpers when needed.
The parents are welcome to stay with their children for as long as they are needed or until they feel happy to leave them. Once the child is settled, coffee and biscuits are provided in an adjoining room where parents can go for a chat and a chance to talk with other parents in a similar situation.
The children have a chance to play with a variety of toys and equipment both indoors and outdoors. These include physical equipment, such as the climbing frame and slide, painting, gluing, playdough, construction toys, jigsaws, musical instruments and much more. We also have a variety of specialist equipment including a light sensory room. We have a break for juice and biscuits.
Visitors often come to the group – health visitors, students and physiotherapists. They are always willing to help you.
The group provides all refreshments (thanks to the Newmarket Co-op) and nappy changing facilities (please bring own nappies). If you have a problem with transport, this can be arranged. The facilities are all free of charge.
